Data were collected from ten schools - eight primary and two secondary schools - which were identified as exhibiting 'good practice' with regard to distributed leadership. The conceptual distinctions suggested by the study are discussed and the possible 'causes' and consequences of school variations in the degree of distributed leadership considered.
