Abstract

This was a paper for the Council for Industry and Higher Education/SRHE Consultation on Trust, Accountability and the World to Come at St George’s House, Windsor Castle, 22-23 April 2010. I was a co-organiser of the symposium. My paper argued that we need to reconceive the relationship between universities and the state, and suggested radical but practical ways in which this might be achieved.
