Abstract

Holy Hiatus: performing ritual, community and place

An illustrated full colour book documenting and contextualising a series of temporary public art projects called “Holy Hiatus” curated by Ruth Jones in Cardigan, West Wales and including projects by artists Alastair MacLennan, Maura Hazelden, Simon Whitehead, Yvonne Buchheim and Anna Lucas. The book contains 4 essays and several other short text contributions as well as images of the artworks.

Yvonne Buchheim's contribution to the book documents her two projects for Holy Hiatus: a public event 'Sound, Water, Beat' (2008) and an under-water sound installation 'Earworms' (2009).

Buchheim presented both projects during a two-day interdisciplinary symposium and book launch. Organised in conjunction with PlaCE Research Centre (UWE) the symposium explores the vital role that ritual plays in creatively re-imagining places and our relationships to them. Featuring illustrated talks, performative lectures and workshops led by specialists in the creative arts, humanities and social sciences.
