The review presented in this paper examines the differences and similarities between products and services. These are then presented as a basis for questioning the need for a business to manage products and services differently. A spectrum of the different types of business and management approaches between product-based firms and service-based firms is then illustrated. The conclusion from the critique is that products and services are rarely definitive and distinct.
