Abstract

These poster images are work in progress of a series of 54. They explore the Adinkra symbols which originate from Ghana, dating back to the pre-historic era. The symbols are still widely used by Ghanaians to the present day, as well as by the wider African-Caribbean diaspora. The symbols each have a specific meaning and moral value, and these new renderings re-imagine these symbols in personal and challenging ways, through images and text. The long term plan is to recreate all 54 symbols.

First exhibited in the 'Ah Fi We Art’ group show.

Photography and Poetry text collaboration with Rob Mitchell.
