Abstract

Discussing how critical pedagogy approaches to participatory media production can enable young people co-producing the media address and negotiate complex aspects of their identities, in this instance, identities of race and culture. This paper was based on a DVD project Sobers had facilitated with Firstborn in 2004, made with young African and African Diaspora people from the Somerset Racial Inclusion Project. The DVD has been used in schools across Somerset and in other areas of the South West, to raise awareness amongst teachers, of how to address racist bullying in their schools.
