Abstract

This paper presents some findings of a research study which explored women’s motivations and experiences of use complementary and alternative medicine in pregnancy and childbirth. A narrative approach was chosen as through story telling it is possible to come to an understanding of how CAM contributed to women’s experiences of pregnancy and childbirth. Participant’s CAM use was motivated by their desire to achieve a normal birth, one without unnecessary medical intervention and one which was an emotionally fulfilling experience.
