Abstract

This article identifies approaches to learning research as a significant influence within educational communities in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Scandinavia and, to a lesser extent, the United States of America. It provides an overview of the approaches to learning framework, emphasizing its strong underpinning in educational theory and relevance to teaching and learning strategies in higher education today. There is a lively community of accounting education researchers working within this framework, and the article reviews the variety and scope of existing research, showing how it can inform accounting education practice. The article concludes by proposing an agenda for further research in the field.
