Abstract

This chapter discusses interprofessional working in which nurses may engage. It identifies why interprofessional working is important, and explains a registered nurse's responsibilities and obligations in this regard. It then outlines different types of interprofessional working within nurse practice environments and discusses the existing evidence-base which supports interprofessional working in nursing. This is followed by information about the history of interprofessional working in UK health and social care services and a discussion about the different forms interprofessional working can take. The chapter concludes by identifying factors that enhance or inhibit interprofessional working.
