The significance of the paper is that it shows that chemical phenomena even in the simplest possible systems can be harnessed to implement computation. The fact that in its current form this and other approaches may not be directly useful in actual computing devices is to ignore the prospects for utilising the phenomena discovered coupled with a better understanding of molecular interactions to implement computation at the molecular level.
