| Additional Information: | This work proposes the so-called description-driven approach to designing flexible software for scientific data analysis. It demonstrates how this approach can facilitate design evolution in large-scale, long duration systems. Since its publication it has been cited by numerous authors in the field of software engineering in scientific computation. The paper originated from the PhD study of Dr Zsolt Kovacs and it led to the Centre for Complex Systems at UWE being invited to join the CERN/CMS Computing Group as an Associated Institute. In addition the work was directly attributable to the CRISTAL project carried out at CERN from 1996-2001. |
