Additional Information:Sputter erosion assessment of electrical contacts requires extensive practical tests and resources. This work which is a joint venture between UWE and Universities in China (Prof Li, HUST University) and Japan (Dr Hasegawa, Chitose Institute) replaces sputter erosion destructive testing with computer modelling which takes into account the interaction between the electromagnetic force, heat conduction and surface tension of the liquid metal, where previously the latter was ignored.
