Item Type:Article
Additional Information:The study on which this paper drew combined quantitative and qualitative methods to follow a cohort of over 400 students as they went through an undergraduate programme in a UK university. A report of the study contributed directly to institutional policy. The specific focus of the article is the effect of prior qualifications on retention and the learning experience, and it formed an important underpinning for the subsequent work of Hatt, Baxter and others on bursary schemes. Baxter is responsible for 50% of this publication.
