Abstract

This article draws upon three different research projects involving the author. These were on home improvement and older people with dementia (funded by the Nuffield Foundation), the harassment of older tenants (funded by Help the Aged) and older homelessness (funded by Help the Aged/HACT). The article uses these three studies of older people in vulnerable housing situations to illustrate the need for an appreciation of the limitations of 'ageing in place' especially given its uncritical promotion by politicians and policy makers from nearly all European, North American and Australasian countries.
