Additional Information:Refereed conference paper. Presented at the Processing Images, Image Quality, Capturing Images Systems (PICS) International Technical Conference on the Science and Systems of Digital Photography, including the Fifth International Symposium on Multispectral Color Science, Rochester, New York, USA. 13 -16 May 2003. Published by International Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) pp.455-460. ISBN 0-89208-245-3. The larger research project has been recognised and funded by Hewlett Packard. Parraman (based at the Centre for Fine Print Research UWE) was asked to join the HP Art and Science Programme (2000-2003), which included the National Gallery, London; the Louvre, Paris; Alinari Photographic Archive, as members. Each research institute contributed to a cycle of HP Art and Science research conferences: research (National Gallery, London 2-3 September 2001; Cyprus 4-6 September 2002; Florence, 12 13 June 2003). The paper represents a call for the development of an international cross disciplinary network, to work with education, the arts, commerce, science and technology to share both practical and theoretical knowledge, and to forge a common language and methods useful to both fields. One of the outcomes of the research was the acceleration of CFPR's knowledge transfer with schools and artists through Hewlett Packard's Art and Science Philanthropy programme, resulting in a series of international print exchanges that test novel print methods for artists: the International digital miniature print portfolio (2001) Movement Marey and Muybridge (2003), Boxing Clever (2005)
