Abstract
Sydney Box was the first study in the British Film Makers series that focussed on a producer rather than a director. The research for this monograph was facilitated by a Research Leave grant from the AHRB/C (2002 - 2003). Spicer was also awarded an AHRC Small Grant (2004) to edit Sydney Box's autobiography, which was believed lost, but discovered during the course of Spicer's research. It was favourably reviewed in Film Review (October 2006) which described it as a "truly remarkable achievement, it brings Britain's post-war film industry vividly to life", and in the Journal of British Film and Television vol. 4, no. 2 (Autumn 2007).
