This paper drew on practical experience of participating in 'Indymedia', a 'radical media' project to facilitate 'independent' online 'citizen journalism', and a conference paper delivered to the First European Communication Conference: 50 Years of Communication Research, Past and Future, Amsterdam, Nov. 2005.
