Abstract
Curator: Dr Anne Hammond
The exhibition consists of 94 works of art -paintings by Georgia O’Keeffe and photographs by Ansel Adams – seen together for the first time in terms of their personal goals and shared background, in a comparative consideration of these two famous artists which reveals the essentially spiritual nature of their work. As an international exhibition which is touring in the US, it offers cultural and social benefit in the general dissemination of knowledge, and a new context for the understanding of the work of two famous artists. The project has enhanced intellectual capital through the curator’s own learning experience, and through the extension of the exhibition to the further activities of lectures and a peer-reviewed article. Scope to encourage academic and general audiences to consider the differences and relations between photography and painting, and the different ways in which works of art may reinforce the psychological power of certain type forms in landscape.
