Abstract
The first part of a two-part article reviews the literature on the orthopaedic nursing management of skeletal pin sites with a focus on reducing infection. The lack of empirical evidence is identified, and the deliberations of a consensus group meeting of UK experts are described. Summary guidelines for good practice are proposed, based on available evidence and expert opinion. © 2001 Harcourt Publishers Ltd.
