Abstract

This essay argues that sf has long been engaged in mapping - often unconsciously – the processes of globalisation and empire. It illustrates this argument with analyses of Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Seas and the Wachowski brothers Matrix trilogy.
