Abstract

The redox environment of the cell is now thought to be extremely important to control the activity of many proteins. During apoptosis, the intracellular redox potential (Eh) becomes more positive, with possible consequences for the mechanisms of apoptosis. Glutathione and cytochrome c might both influence and be influenced by the cellular redox environment and therefore be important in the progression of apoptosis.
