Abstract
This paper explores the extent to which body care after death is gendered in the UK and the extent this has changed over time, with particular reference to the profesisonalisation and masculinisation of these services. The emotional and cosmetic serives provided by undertakers are related to the concept of absence/presence in bereavement studies, as well as ideas of home.
